A group of adults rolling their own sushi at a long table

A hands-on class at your place. The chef teaches the rice first — which is where most home sushi goes wrong — then rolling, cutting and plating. Everyone eats what they make.

What you’ll make

Five kinds of sushi, from the first roll to the showpiece, and you eat every one.

  1. Maki1 of 5

    Maki

Where everyone starts: nori on the outside, rice and one filling inside. This is where you learn to roll it tight.

  2. California roll2 of 5

    California roll

Inside out, with the rice on the outside and rolled in sesame. The trick is turning it over without losing it.

  3. Salmon roses3 of 5

    Salmon roses

Salmon wrapped around a little roll of rice and finished on top, so each piece opens like a flower.

  4. Hand roll4 of 5

    Hand roll

A cone of nori filled and rolled in your hand. No mat, no knife, and best eaten the moment it is made.

  5. Fashion sandwich5 of 5

    Fashion sandwich

Layers of rice, nori and filling pressed together, then cut into neat sandwiches. The showpiece to finish on.
